The one day competition is looking to encourage people to eat healthy food using local ingredients rather than depending on imported junk and cheap food like turkey tails and mutton flaps that have caused major concern with the growing non-communicable deceases (NCD) around the Pacific region.

The theme of this year was ‘Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition’. The main focus of the food competition is for people to grasp the concept of food security and nutrition, according to the organisers was achieved.

"It aimed to promote traditional healthy food using local ingredients - which are of course to be sustainably managed for future generations". An organising member stated.

The outcome of the day has contributed significantly to the Food Security section under Policy Outcome Area 2 of the Tokelau National Strategic Plan, as people have been further educated and has been made well-aware of food security and nutritional goals set out in the policy.
